Study 02 · Independent Editorial Concept / Youth Culture / Film & Stills
03:17 — After Dark
A speculative editorial study of Saudi youth culture after sunset

Premise
When the heat lifts, ordinary infrastructure becomes youth space. Parking structures become skate grounds, cars become changing rooms, laundrettes and tailors stay social after hours, and municipal light gives the city a second visual life.
“After dark, the city does not become a spectacle; it becomes available.”
Challenge
What the study had to solve
Create a contemporary Saudi night-world with geographic and social specificity while avoiding generic regional shorthand, generated-language errors, brand claims and the polished sameness of AI fashion imagery. The result must read as a disciplined editorial proposition, not documentary evidence.
Audience
Who the world must work for
Saudi and international sport, fashion, music, entertainment and cultural teams looking for locally accountable campaign direction; recruiters assessing whether a creative director can turn a sensitive cultural proposition into a coherent sequence, production language and research plan.
Cultural protocol
Specificity is part of the craft.
- 01Independent prototype, not documentary — every person and scene is fictional, and no claim is made that the images record lived events.
- 02Saudi specificity would be developed with Saudi creative producers, cultural researchers, casting partners and location teams before production.
- 03Arabic copy, dialect and typography must be written and approved by fluent local writers and designers; generated language is never treated as final artwork.
- 04No brand, artist or organisation affiliation is claimed; visible product marks in prototype imagery would be cleared, replaced or removed before release.
- 05Final production would replace AI-assisted prototypes with original commissioned photography and properly consented casting.
Narrative / design architecture
A sequence with consequence.
- 01Motion / The garage becomes a skate ground
- 02Stillness / A solitary figure establishes scale
- 03Preparation / The car becomes a private threshold
- 04Work / Late service keeps the city active
- 05Street / Blue hour becomes a social colour field
- 06Craft / Youth style meets intergenerational labour
- 07Public room / One figure meets civic scale
Selected visual sequence
The world develops frame by frame.
I curated the sequence to show how the idea develops across scale, atmosphere and function.

World system
What holds the idea together.
- 01Concrete, fluorescent light and direct flash before spectacle
- 02Petrol blue, faded cream, sodium amber and restrained magenta
- 03Parking structures, cars, laundrettes, tailors and civic interiors
- 04Movement, preparation, labour and pause as equal narrative modes
- 05Casting and wardrobe developed through local partners
- 06Verified Arabic copy and controlled graphic design
- 07Hero film, editorial stills, short-form motion and out-of-home crops
- 08Location, brand and music clearances built into the production plan
Production-aware next step
How the concept could become a working brief.
Further development would appoint a Saudi creative producer and cultural researcher, choose one city and neighbourhood logic, interview local skaters, athletes, designers and night-shift workers, recast through local partners, clear or remove all visible marks, commission Arabic copy and typography, scout real garages and late-working businesses, build a direct-flash and available-light camera test, replace every prototype with original photography, and review the final sequence with local collaborators before release.
Competencies evidenced
The senior value behind the images.
- Culturally accountable campaign direction
- Editorial sequencing and cinematic stills
- Local-research and production strategy
- AI visual-development curation with human validation
